I am exited to once again welcome you all to the 5th edition of the Annual Abuja International Model United Nations Conference (AIMUN’19) scheduled to be held from 3rd to 8th November, 2019 at the Rotunda Hall of the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja.
At the Abuja International Model United Nations Conference (AIMUN), participants (called delegates) will be designated as Ambassadors, grouped into various committees of the United Nations such as Security Council, Economics and Financial Committee, Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee, etc. and are charged to debate, negotiate and lobby one another towards proffering practical solutions to the world’s most daunting challenges such as Terrorism, Human Rights Violation, Cyber Security, Economic and Refugee Crisis etc. using the foreign policies of the country they will individually be representing.
In the process of doing that, delegates have un-matched opportunities to acquire leadership attributes that ordinarily not available or otherwise difficult to acquire in the course of reading books, viewing films, video or television, accessing blogs and/or internet. They will as well got extraordinary chance to strengthen their abilities to engage in the arts of reasoned argument and spirited debate, develop and practice analytical, writing, editing and public speaking, deepen their knowledge and understanding of the world and its people for effective and efficient civic and public affairs leadership.
Taking the form of an authentic simulation of all sorts of negotiations that take place in the various committees and organs of the United Nations Organization, attracting keynote speakers, special guests, as well as National and International conference participants from all spheres of life and across the continents, will to a very large extent, help raise awareness among the upcoming leaders and the general public about imminent global challenges, the effects of foreign policies of some governments on one another as well as the overview of the global peace and International security provided by the United Nations.
The theme for this year’s conference is “A World Free from Fears: Challenges for the United Nations and Multilateralism”
